I spent the last few days rebuilding my site templates to run in XHTML transitional doctype and then found that the calendar would fail in IE8 with a runtime error in "excanvas-compressed.js"
There were no clues on Google as to the possible cause, but I knew that it had worked fine in my old quirks mode template. After much trial and error I discovered the culprit was a totally unrelated "position:relative" in my skin.css
The lesson is... if anyone has script errors they can't debug, try clearing out the stylesheet/s.

I took it that it was great that I fixed the problem I was having.
What I did was open all my stylesheets live on the server, deleted their contents, and then checked the site to see if it resolved the issue. It did, indicating that the problem was in the CSS.
Then I restored what was deleted and progressively deleted one half of the remaining CSS content. So long as the site continued to show the error, I knew the issue was in the remaining CSS. Otherwise the issue would be in the bit I had just deleted.
It only took a few minutes to find the problem line - though it took quite a lot longer to suspect the CSS like this.

Thanks.... I found the problem searching for all tags that had a "position:relative" and commented them out one by one. After about 3 it started working properly... now the problem is, I'm not sure if I messed up the css ... it looks normal...for now.
Thanks for the help.

ok that's good. If it has messed something up then you might notice something has moved around the page. But if everything is still where it belongs then you should be set.
