It would be very helpful to have a new data type of hidden field. This field would have a default value that gets posted to every event in that calendar.

Yes, it could be very useful.

Before it is implemented, you may want to use the text box field, and modify the template so that the custom text field displayed as hidden value on the web page.

That's a good workaround but I don't want the event authors to see it either.

If the values are fixed, you can even hard code into the template at the View Options, so no one will see it except you.
