Hi, a couple of suggestions for useability.

* Always place all day events above timeed events in the month view. This is common practice in calendars now and is easier to read.
* Allow suppression of the "My appointments" button. As it works now, this only makes sense as part of an approval process.
* Also, I agree with comment in the other thread about the icon bar icons. They can be hard to click right - could they be skinnable?

OK, that's three but one is really someone else's.

Cheers

... and one more !

* If you disable the "day view" icon (I did) users can still get to the day view by clicking on the day in the month view. This means that I can't ignore the day view altogether as I would like to and is confusing to users when they find a secret day view. Shouldn't turning of fth eday view icon also prevent linking from the month view?

That's definately three now.

Cheers,

Hi,

1. Yes, we can change that.
2. The "My Events" button is only displayed when you are (at least) able to enter new events.
3. It is not skinnable now but you are free to change the icons.. What in particular you want to achieve when you say "skinnale"?

4. We can add this option in the Main Settings.

Thanks. This is probably a good time to say that I am really impressed by this level of support and responsiveness.

Here are some comments:

1. Placing untimed events first would be great, thanks.

2. The "My events" button appearance is a little clearer to me but, as I am not using approval at the moment (all my adding users can approve), the use of the drop-down filter which defaults to "Show Not Approved Events" is meaningless to them. I can see that it works fine for folk using the approval mechanism. Similarly, they would wonder what the "#" column means. What if it defaulted to "Show All My Events"?

3. I was being a little vague when I asked about skinning the toolbar. I guess it's a very visible part of the look and feel, so it seems a shame that we have such control over the presentation of other areas but couldn't (for example) replace the icons with text links or move them around. Actually, I'm happy to just change the icons for now. Will they be overwritten in the next update?

4. Thanks again.

I have another small usability request (sorry!) but this thread is looking cluttered, so I'll start a new one.

Cheers,

Russell

Hi,

1. Ok.

2. We will see what can be enhanced on this, maybe save the user selection in session.

3. If you change the ascx files, it will be overwritten when you update. If you only change the CSS files and saved them into a different file name, they will not be replaced.

Thanks

Thanks, Just a thought on the "My events" button. If the logged in user is an approver, then won't their own events always be approved? If so, you could just hide the filter drop-down and show all events for that user. That would certainly work for me.

Yes, it will work for you.

The point of "Show Events Not Approved", is to show events entered by others, but not approved, (need your approval).

I understand your point, if you are the approval and enter an event, yes, it will be approved automatically.

Hi, a bit more feedback from my users on sorting all day events to the top.

They want to be able to follow multi-day all day events as easily as possible. Currently, the sort order is not clear so that often (say) a four day event will be "broken up" by a single one.

Mon---Tue---Wed---Thu---Fri---Sat
Long Short Long Long
Long

If this happens a lot on a month it is much harder to see what's going on. Google deals with this quite well, somehow, and actually draws continuous lines across the days for multi day events. If you haven't already done the sort thing, could this be included?

Of the top of my head, a sort order for events on the month view of event Start Date/Time (asc) then event End Date/Time (desc) might give a good result most of the time but I haven't tried this out.

Okay, what you mean is for the Calendar view.

We can work on that, definitely.

Thanks

Hi.

Did this item: "* If you disable the "day view" icon (I did) users can still get to the day view by clicking on the day in the month view. This means that I can't ignore the day view altogether as I would like to and is confusing to users when they find a secret day view. Shouldn't turning of fth eday view icon also prevent linking from the month view?" not make it into 3.1? It seems I can still click on the day in teh calandar view and reach the day view when the Day View icon is disbaled in the settings.

Russell,

Actually the setting was to hide the "day view" button on the toolbar at the top, maybe it is a good idea to add an option to "disable day view".

That would do, although I was expecting to have the current option also disable the day links on the calendar. It doesn't seem to make much sense to remove the "day view" button and then leave another way to get to the day view. It causes real problems for my users, who are not used to the day view and panic when they arrive there.

Given the current 3.1 activity, am I right to think that any further changes like this one are likely to be well after Christmas?
