I have set up a category called "Public" with only ADMINS and EDITORS roles checked to be able to see this category yet when I log in as a MEMBER (role) it still appears and is functional when creating a new announcement or article.

Am i missing a step? I am attempting to allow users with ADMIN or EDITOR roles to check the "public" categorie and therefore create a public announcement. The sattelite module would then filter for category Public and only display public messages in the public portion of the site.

Using v 4.2.9

It looks like the current version does not check the permission for categories, we shall amend this feature in the coming release due by end of November 09.

Thanks.

In an extension of this method i have a further question. I would like to have the ability for members to create both member to member or member to public announcements within the member only area. Member to member would be unmoderated and member to public would be moderated.

At first I hoped the " public" category might offer the solution but one cannot set moderation settings only view settings to a category. My other attempt was to put two instances of the module on the private members page, one which requires moderation and would display public messages and the other un-moderated to display member only messages. This worked for the purpose of creating announcements. The problem occured when tryin to view a public announcement form the satelite module installed in a public page. It would propogate the read more description in both instances of the module in the private members area, so you would see the long description twice. Also since i have delineated the read more to display inline it forces a reader to log in to the members only area where the announcement originated in order to read the full announcement for what was supposed to be a public announcement.

May there is a better way all toghether.Any suggestions?
Thanks

Dennis,

I understand your first half of the question, and then I was lost after reading your 2nd half of it...

well there are several questions, sorry for the confusion.

1)how would one set up a module instance whererby users with a "member" role would post articles that would require moderation while users with a different role (eg "editor") would be able to create articles that would post without moderation

2) when an article is generated from a module withing a private page (a page that required unregisted users to log in) and displayed in the satelite module in a public accessable page and the view detail is set to view inline then when an unregistered used tries to view said article it tries to view it inline from the originating page therefore requiring a log in. should it not display inline on the page of the satelite module which is a public page? The only view setting that works in this case is pop-up.

3) Can two instancesof this module with different settings be installed on a single page?

Hi, Dennis,

1.) Yes, you can change the Main Settings, under roles that can approve, and roles can submit articles.

2.) Yes, if it is inline, it will try to bring user to the article page. You can use popup for the article detail.

3.) Yes. But you can't view article detail inline as the module tries to read the article ID if it is available in the query string.

Thanks.
