For those who may not know what acupuncture is, acupuncture is a complementary therapy used to manage pain. Its origin is China and was practiced as early as about 3000 years ago; it is a TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine component) component.

This therapy treatment has now gained popularity world-wide and is being practiced by many people suffering from acute pain.

How Does Acupuncture Work?

Now this might sound like a really painful procedure to someone new to this process, but in actuality, it’s a soothing process, and when the procedure is completed, you’ll feel like you have been given a new lease of life.

The process happens when very fine needles which are about 32 to 36mm gauge into the body in locations called acupoints. There are about 350 acupoints all over the human body.

Considering the Yin and Yang in the TCM culture, when disease strikes the body, it is believed that it happens because of an imbalance in the body energies. Hence, since the disease is considered an imbalance in the body, it is treated through balancing this same body. Acupuncture is therefore considered as a delicate balance of the flow of energy. This energy is also known as the life force.

What Does Acupuncture Really Do?

In today’s world, we have a new breed of illness mostly because of the changing lifestyle. People spend hours on end in offices and as a result, we get acute pain and many other diseases. Some of the diseases that acupuncture focuses on are:

  • acute back pain
  • stroke
  • headache
  • addictions
  • pregnancy complications (yes, pregnant women can also access this service)
  • tennis elbow
  • menstrual cramps, and many other complications.

But does acupuncture really work for acute pain and other complications?

Some studies have shown that acupuncture has no basis and apparently does not work. One study from the Seattle Group Health Centre disputed the fact that these treatments do work, but reports from patients highly challenged their studies; they said that this form of treatment therapy has really helped them.

More comprehensive studies that have been published have shown that the real acupuncture has benefits unparalleled by any other treatments so far, and that patients reported feeling much better after this treatment.

Doctors have theorized that when suffering from acute pain, these needles will release endorphins which are basically feel-good hormones and induce pleasure in the brain cells, hence killing any pain experienced. This theory, however, does little to explain why acupuncture patients have reported less frequent and less intense pain episode over time while on this treatment.

Well, researchers have argued that since this treatment works, does it really matter how? Do not allow your body to suffer anymore and try acupuncture treatment therapy in NYC.
